Is Your Space Ready for a Micro Market or Smart Cooler? A Site Checklist

Most breakrooms can host a smart cooler or micro market with little or no preparation. A quick look at a few details before our site visit helps everything go smoothly on installation day. Use this checklist to see where your space stands.

1. Floor space

  • Single-door smart coolers need about 23 to 36 inches of wall space.
  • Double-door coolers need about 48 to 54 inches.
  • A compact micro market fits in roughly 50 to 100 square feet, and larger spaces allow more variety.
  • Leave room in front for people to open the door and step back with an armful of items.

2. Power

Each cooler needs a standard 110 to 120 volt grounded outlet. A dedicated circuit is best for refrigeration, and extension cords should be avoided. Micro markets with several coolers and a kiosk usually need more than one outlet, which we plan for during the visit.

3. Connectivity

The AI smart coolers we place have built-in 4G, so they do not need your Wi-Fi. A micro market kiosk does need a reliable Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connection to process payments.

4. The path in

Coolers arrive fully assembled and are tall, heavy units. We measure the whole route from the loading area to the final spot:

  • Doorway widths and heights.
  • Elevator size and weight limits.
  • Stairs, tight corners and thresholds.
  • Building rules for deliveries, such as dock hours or elevator reservations.

5. Flooring and airflow

Refrigerated units need a level floor and a few inches of clearance around the back and top so the cooling system can breathe. A cooler jammed into an alcove works harder and costs more to run.

6. Lighting and visibility

People buy more from equipment they can see. A spot on the natural path between the entrance and the desks, or between the lobby and the elevators, gets more use than a back corner.

7. Security

Smart coolers lock until a payment is authorized, so they work in public spaces. Open-shelf micro markets work best in areas with controlled access, such as badge-only floors or resident-only clubhouses, ideally with a camera covering the space.

What happens next

Once you have a rough idea of your space, we do a free site visit to confirm everything and recommend equipment. From there, most installations are scheduled within a few days, and machines that need to be ordered take two to three weeks. Learn more about micro markets and smart cooler vending, or schedule your site visit.
